Chiropractic care is a profession, not a specific technique. A common misconception is that chiropractors only adjust the spine. In fact, chiropractors are trained to help many pain conditions all over the body.
When you visit our Burlington chiropractic office, we start with a thorough examination to identify the cause of your pain, including a full history of the complaint and orthopedic/neurological testing. If x-rays or advanced imaging is required, we can refer our patients to the right imaging center.
An Adjustment (more technically called a Manipulation) is one of the most common treatments performed by a chiropractor and is almost synonymous with “chiropractic care” itself. It is, however, just one treatment technique a chiropractor can use to help a patient feel better.
Our goal is to help our patients with effective conservative care, without the need for expensive surgery or addictive medication. With a personalized treatment plan combining manual therapy, spinal manipulation, and exercise – together we can help you feel better, move better, and have more energy.
Patients who visit our Burlington chiropractic office for care, usually complain of one of many of the following:
- Back Pain / Low Back Pain
- Neck Pain
- Headaches
- Sports Injuries
- Auto Injury / Whiplash
- Shoulder Pain
- Arthritis
- Pregnancy-related pain

Our approach to Chiropractic Care
Our approach is to deliver quick pain relief and promote healthy movement habits that will prevent the development of chronic pain. Our patients progress through three phases, The Cardinal Process, in our office to relieve pain and increase resilience.
Phase 1 is “Pain Elimination”. During this phase, we work to eliminate most of your discomfort with more frequent treatment. We employ chiropractic adjustments, manual therapy, and targeted exercises to get you feeling better.
Phase 2 is “Return to Play/Activity”. During this phase, you will visit the office less frequently, but each visit may take longer as we spend more time performing a tailored workout aimed at restoring good movement.
Phase 3 is “Performance Care”. This is when our approach really shines! During your monthly visit, you will visit both the chiropractor and our strength coaches who will assign personalized workouts to build strength and maximize performance.
When should you seek chiropractic care?
If you suffer from acute or chronic pain, we can help.
We know how stressful it can be to miss work, postpone your workout or tee-time at the golf course, or be unable to pick up your kids due to pain. We offer an alternative to living with that pain.
We find that a lot of our patients seek care because of sports injuries, poor posture, and work ergonomics. If you wake up every day with pain, or notice that sitting at your desk all day kills your neck and upper back, we know how frustrating it can be.
We specialize in providing affordable, expert-level care for our patients.
How does a chiropractic adjustment help me?
Spinal Manipulative Therapy (aka an Adjustment) is one of the primary techniques a chiropractic physician utilizes to help with spine, joint, and muscle pain.
Acute and chronic pain is caused by inflammation, joint stiffness (fixation), and muscle tightness. A chiropractic adjustment helps all three of those causes, relieving your pain even after your first visit.
Whether you are a desk worker or an avid athlete, the results are the same: an increase in motion and better muscle control. And in the end, pain and discomfort are decreased.
What Our Patients Are Saying:
I am so thankful I found Dr. Andy. I have been to so many different Chiropractors and other specialists to help correct my back and neck problems. Dr. Andy helped relieve my pain which others have failed. I also appreciate how friendly, accommodating, and understanding Dr. Andy and his office staff Miranda are. I very much look forward to my visits. ~ Misty B. from Burlington, NC
What happens when I get a chiropractic adjustment?
Spinal Manipulation (the Adjustment) is a treatment technique that utilizes a gentle push to restore joint motion. During the push, the joint surfaces separate by a tiny fraction of an inch. It is common to hear and/or feel a “pop” when this happens. That pop is the release of gas from inside the joint, reducing joint pressure.
During your first visit, we will take a complete history and discuss your goals in our Burlington office. After that, all our patients start with a thorough movement-based exam to determine exactly where and when treatment, including a chiropractic adjustment, should be applied.
Following your initial treatment, it is common to feel immediate pain relief and to feel more flexible.
After we get you out of pain, our goal is to improve your injury resistance. Injury resistance helps in 3 ways:
- Decreases your chance of reinjury
- Speeds up recovery time
- Decreases severity of a reinjury if it does happen
At our office in Burlington, NC we want to help all our patients overcome their pain with personalized treatment, allowing them to feel better, move better, and have more energy.
Besides a chiropractic adjustment, what types of care do you offer?

What is that popping sound and is it important?
The popping sound felt or heard during a chiropractic adjustment is the release of gas (oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide) that has built up inside the joint. A chiropractic adjustment separates the joint surfaces, releases the gas, and reduces the joint pressure. This helps restore joint movement and function.
It is not important to always hear that sound. If there isn’t enough gas built up, there will not be a pop – even with a successful adjustment.
