When you dreamt of being pregnant, you may have envisioned joyful baby showers, working your job throughout your pregnancy, and coordinating the colors of the new baby’s room. You may not have anticipated lower back pain, sciatica, or even pubic pain alongside your growing baby. Being in pain makes it hard to move, sit in hard chairs, and really enjoy bonding with your growing body and child. Did you know there is a safe solution?
It is both a passion and a labor of love helping women enjoy their pregnancy using gentle techniques with chiropractic and massage. Pregnancy is supposed to be a time of joy and new expectations. Let us help you. There is nothing more gratifying than to help someone be able to take their pain to a manageable level and to afford them the ability to concentrate on their baby, comfortably.
What happens during pregnancy?
Pregnancy is one of the most amazing times in a woman’s life should she decide to have a child. Having a child in any way possible, through birth, adoption, or surrogacy, is life altering. It is as if one day you are given a pair of glasses and life seems more important.
As a woman’s body changes to accommodate the growth of the baby, pain can happen. Not all pregnancies are the same, even with the same woman and same circumstances! One pregnancy can be blissfully easy while another is full of discomfort. Women with pregnancy-related pain often complain they cannot get comfortable because of neck pain, sciatica, groin discomfort, and back pain, among other areas that hurt.
An expanding abdomen can place additional strain on the pelvis as the center of a woman’s gravity shifts. The shoulders may round forward to accommodate the strain on a woman’s core muscles. Her pelvis tilts. And hormones, such as relaxin, surge throughout the woman’s entire body to help the growth of the child and relax ligaments to allow for expansion. Pre-natal care has made tremendous advances in the last decade to alleviate, or at least help manage, commonly encountered aches and pains of being pregnant.
Can a chiropractor help with pregnancy-related pain?
Wanting the best for yourself and your baby means finding natural alternatives to pain killers and prescription medications. Chiropractic care is the safe, natural alternative to treating back, hip, and neck pain.
Massage therapy can also be beneficial, and often, chiropractic care and massage therapy modalities go hand in hand. Chiropractic helps improve body and joint function while massage therapy relaxes the muscles that support the structure. The combination helps reduce physical, mental, and emotional stress, helping you to fully enjoy the pregnancy experience.
Chiropractic care is safe and effective to help ease the musculoskeletal changes that occur with pregnancy that result in headaches, low back pain, pinched nerves, muscle strain, and others.
Sometimes, women experiencing a breech baby position will seek a chiropractor for assistance. Breech position occurs near the end of pregnancy when the growing fetus isn’t in a face-down position inside the uterus. Many times, chiropractic care is recommended for breech position pregnancies by their trusted OB-GYN, midwife, or by doing a desperate search on the internet.
There are several types of breech position:
- Footling breech. This means the feet are presenting first toward the woman’s cervix.
- Frank breech. Here, the baby is position where the bum is presenting first.
- Transverse breech. In this position, the baby is straight across.
Carrying a baby should look like a watermelon standing on end. A transverse just looks painful in the abdomen, in that it looks like the “watermelon” went sideways — stretching, stretching, stretching.
Why does breech happen? No one knows for sure.
